It was a pleasure to work at Punchestown Racecourse to capture the atmosphere and spirit of the racing during the Punchestown Festival. It was a long overdue first visit to Ireland, having seen many of their wonderful horses and trainers over here, especially at Cheltenham.
The Festival had an amazing atmosphere, and the Guinness was as good as expected – I spent an extra day there to relax and enjoy the racing. It was also good to see some British trainers and their horses over there, including Colin Tizzard, Nicky Henderson and Harry Fry.
This was the second day of the Punchestown Festival with the key race being the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup, won by Robbie Power on board Sizing John (this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup winner) for trainer Jess Harrington and beating Mullin’s Djakadam by a short head, with Coneygree in third place. Coneygree won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2015. Robbie Power also won the penultimate race of the day on Sizing Granite for the Tizzard team.
