The McCoys at Cheltenham Racecourse

It was a pleasure to capture the atmosphere and events of the The McCoys at Cheltenham racecourse. The awards were held in the Centaur at Cheltenham to celebrate jump racing in the South-West. 450 people attended the event which focused on performances at Cheltenham, Warwick, Wincanton and Exeter and so recognised some of the main talents in jump racing, amongst the many owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff and horses. A sparkling and elegant event, with entertainment provided by The Chip Shop Boys and Rebecca Ferguson. Awards included One for Arthur for Horse of the Season, while chaser Sizing John was

Punchestown

It was a pleasure to work at Punchestown Racecourse to capture the atmosphere and spirit of the racing during the Punchestown Festival. It was a long overdue first visit to Ireland, having seen many of their wonderful horses and trainers over here, especially at Cheltenham. The Festival had an amazing atmosphere, and the Guinness was as good as expected – I spent an extra day there to relax and enjoy the racing. It was also good to see some British trainers and their horses over there, including Colin Tizzard, Nicky Henderson and Harry Fry. This was the second day of

Jockey Club Front Cover

I was delighted to have my image on the front cover of the Jockey Club’s Kalendar magazine last season. It was a real surprise therefore to find that one of my images had made the front cover again, and so appears on the front of the Kalendar magazine for the 2016/17 jump season. The image, a close-up of a horse and jockey after a race, with the steam from the horse just visible in the slightly chill March air was taken at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year. Looking forward to working for the Jockey Club again tomorrow, capturing the

Cheltenham Festival Images

An amazing week at the Cheltenham Festival 2016. It has been quite a task to narrow the images down to my favourites for this blog post. The following images are from the first two days of the Festival, with a second post to follow. The images are generally atmospheric documentary images, capturing the essence of the Festival. Featured horses include Annie Power, an amazing horse, winner of the Stan James Hurdle; Yorkhill winner of the Neptune Novices Hurdle, and Sprinter Sacre after winning the Betway Queen Mother Campion Steeplechase. The weather was cold on the first two days and the

Horse Photography – Haydock Park

A wet but very warm welcome at Haydock Park. My first visit to Haydock, working for Jockey Club East. The brief was to capture atmospheric documentary photography, including the opening of the new Kauto Star restaurant. The rain came down for most of the day, but the crowds and atmosphere in the many parts of the racecourse more than made up for this. I particularly loved the Parade Ring with it’s many trees, even in the drizzle!

Cheltenham Racing

Friday saw a return to Jumps at Cheltenham. Delighted to be working with the Jockey Club for a second season at Cheltenham Racecourse. My aim is to capture the Cheltenham racing with a behind the scenes feel of race day using documentary style imagery with a fine art feel. The new grandstand to be officially opened next month is superb with lots more viewing opportunities of the course and the Parade Ring.

Middleham Gallops

A weekend away in Middleham, North Yorkshire last weekend. A fabulous location with 15 training stables, castle, good places to eat and a great pint of Theakstons brewed locally in Masham. Spent early Saturday morning on the gallops, and met trainer Phil Kirby who kindly gave us a lift across the top and the opportunity to meet some of his horses.
